to kitchen island or not to?

to kitchen island or not to? i did some search online to see examples on how this part of the kitchen is been used, check out some of these pictures;

too many projects in one

the kitchen has got too many projects in one; the range area and the hood above, the sink area, the cooking space with surrounding shelves and cookware, the bar area, the breakfast area, flooring, counter top, storage, backsplash.



we have to answer many questions before we start, between open shelves or closed or both, between having a bar, island or neither, a double sink or one, stainless or ceramic, granite, wood, korian or stainless.. etc



i think the kicthen has to be functional as well as beautiful.

where to start?

so many ideas come into mind as we go through the different kicthen pictures. it's kind of tricky to start. we are more trying to have the whole picture before we start updating parts. so first to list the hardware that exists; we have the double sided stainless steel fridge (new), electric range top (old), old dish washer, old wall oven (good but old) and an above the range white big microwave with powerfull venting fan. the dish washer is working but no good, so we'll be getting new one. the wall oven can stay for now. the old range top will go .. to be replaced with gas range top. the above the range microwave will go to make space for hopefully a nice vent that will be the kitchen focus.
I will post the layout of the kicthen and some pictures soon. our kitchen right now have no focus and with all things white, you cann't even tell where the range is. i am currently looking at above the range hoods that will take advantage of the high cieling and spacious kicthen also looking at backsplash ideas.
