the island is great when u have space. we got an island with a stove top, i won't recommend that., i'd prefer a either the food prep sink or the counter top extra space. Jane.

a stove top island is best suited for an island with bigger space. it's perfect for cuisines where food is cooked in front of guests. I agree with you Jane, for a kitchen with kids and different food and cooks, the stove better be not on the island.

i love the last picture layout. it looks so cozy and warm and neat at the same time. just love it. could you do your own kitchen something like it?

do you have any open concept design... without and island ...with open cabinets instead. It would be nice to see how all that blends without high-back chairs

i love the last picture too, the kitchen is more like a square with good size, but our kitchen is more like a rectangle. if we end up doing a full reno, then i am definetly keeping that picture in mind. thx

I am looking at both open concepts and the hybrd ones. i am not sure i want all cabinates to be open, but won't mind having the ones we frequently access be open. I will try to find some pictures with open, closed and mix cabinates, and see how did that all come out. thx
